Wily Wars savestates update
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 26 October 2008 at 1:18

ACE_Spark was nice enough to send in a brand-new set of savestates to be used with the game Mega Man: The Wily Wars or it's Japanese version, Rockman Megaworld. These saves put you before the beginning of the Wily Tower minigame, which allows you to see it's introduction. You can also select to begin with either 0 or 99 Energy Tanks, depending on which file you use.

This download replaced the older one in the Downloads section.

Should Mega Man 9 be more...?
Original Series, by Dr. Cossack on 19 August 2008 at 23:27

A debate that has been brewing since the announcement that Mega Man 9 would be a downloadable title keeps getting more attention: does Mega Man 9, the long-awaited game, deserve to be more than a downloadable game? What does the franchise need to get people's attention once again?

The Helldragon, frequest visitor of our message board, strongly believes that this game (and the franchise as a whole) deserves better. He presents his full reasoning in a YouTube video, available for all to listen to and comment back. He urges you to comment and let your voice known on something that several people have already formed an opinion on.

A link to this has also been added to the "Contribute!" section at the right of the page.

New Mega Man 9 Information (6/26 UPDATE)
Original Series, by Mr.Mettaur on 21 June 2008 at 0:55

(New developments....Okay, this info is for real. Seriously. No joke.)

With a legitimate screenshot of Mega Man 9 now circulating the net, we have confirmation of the game's visual style -- pure 8-bit, and true to its roots. The game looks just like the NES games!

Straight from the pages of Nintendo Power, we also have a list of the game's Robot Masters:
Magma Man
Galaxy Man
Jewel Man
Concrete Man
Hornet Man
Plug Man
Tornado Man
Splash Woman (?!)

P.S: From the pages of Nintendo Power, we also have confirmation that the title WILL be coming to WiiWare. Be excited, folks.

I'll save my speculations for the forums. Hit the source for the screenshot.

Mega Man 9 Is Coming!
Original Series, by Mr.Mettaur on 13 June 2008 at 13:25

Uncovered by forum-goers at NeoGAF. This morning, a new registry has surfaced on the website of The Classification Board of the Australian Government, under the title of MEGA MAN 9.

Details are scarce; the information on the registry shows that the game is scheduled to be multi-platform (XBLA/PSN release?), and the "Application" field reads "Red Ant Enterprises", a sizable company that handles Australian game publications such as the Wii Okami port and Lost Planet.

This is seeming pretty legit. Ladies, gentlemen, brace yourselves. Mega Man 9 may finally be upon us.

May 2008 mini-contest: the results!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 5 June 2008 at 22:24

And we have a winner!

#10007 - For the contest, Beat

The winning entry is this very friendly-looking Beat, drawn by none other than HollowTorment! Congratulations!

Hollow, you'll receive your prize shortly: a 20$ Amazon.com Gift Card! Please check your message board PM inbox: I've sent you a message there.

While we're on the topic of the mini-contest, I've created a short survey to get your opinion on this new event. It's only 4 short questions, and I'd appreciate it if you took a few seconds to fill it.

I think that, overall, this mini-contest went very well. We've seen several interesting character concepts, and the idea was popular with many people. A big THANKS goes to all those who entered, and who knows... see you next time!

New screenshots of Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, an in-development Capcom crossover game, have surfaced, courtesy of Famitsu magazine. In these screens, a Mega Man Legends/Tron Bonne stage is clearly visible, with Servbots scurrying around in the background as well. Could this hint at more Mega Man representation in the future of the Capcom Vs. titles?

Eighth anniversary!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 6 May 2008 at 22:24

Welcome people, and gather around as we celebrate the Mega Man PC Website: Dr. Cossack's Lab eighth anniversary! This year was a bit special as two long-awaited projects were made available. First of all, the Rockboard translation was finally completed, giving you access to one of the very few non-translated Mega Man games. Second, the ever-requested resume feature was added to the oekaki board to allow people to spread out a drawing over several days, if not weeks.

The oncoming year should be as interesting. The first obvious addition is the mini-contest annonced a few days ago only. Who knows, if this one goes well enough, a second one could be planned! There's another major feature underway for this website, which has yet to be unveiled. Stay tuned!

Star Force 3 Confirmed To Be In Development
Star Force Series, by Mr.Mettaur on 6 May 2008 at 20:24

Continuing its long-standing tradition of making far more sequels than are necessary, Capcom has set up a preview page for the third installment in the Star Force series (Ryusei no Rockman in Japan).

There's not much there as of right now, aside from a fancy flash page and a downloadable wallpaper. But, now we know it's coming. And if you have any sense, you'll probably see Star Force 4 coming from a mile away, as well.

Oekaki mini-contest starting now!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 1 May 2008 at 9:01

May 2008 is the website's anniversary, and as such, I'm now announcing a new drawing event on the oekaki board: a mini-contest!

This one is quite a bit different from the last contest done on this website, hence the name "mini-contest". Instead of a challenge based on skill, this is a challenge based on participation and luck: anyone who submits a valid picture through the month, which fits with the given theme, will be entered to win a 20$ Amazon.com gift card. This gives a chance to win to anyone interested enough in participating. The full details, along with what is considered a "valid picture", are available in the latest oekaki board announcement.

The contest begins now and ends on May 31st, 2008 at 23:59:59 according to Eastern time.

To everyone who decides to enter: good luck!

FanArt, again
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 29 January 2008 at 20:45

Strazicic, who previously contributed some FanArt to the site, came back to me with another set of impressive mixed scenes. All of them feature several characters from the various Mega Man series, along with some external cameos and original designs. He also sent it clearer scans of his three original pictures. All of these are available in his
dedicated gallery.

I'd like to use this update to remind you of the now-available FanArt-Oekaki link, which allows you to link your FanArt gallery with your oekaki profile. You can read the details on the original news item. If you sent in some FanArt before, and are registered on the oekaki board, be sure to drop me a line!

Rockboard translation: COMPLETE!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 31 December 2007 at 23:51

Rockboard title screen

I'm happy to announce that the Wily & Light's Rockboard: That's Paradise!! translation project is now COMPLETE! After years of work, you can now download a translation patch to fully translate this Japanese-only game into English. The teaser posted a week ago is none other than a building seen in the background of the third level of the game, Hot Zone. I'll fully admit that the work on this has taken a lot longer than originally planned. The nature of the game (which has a lot of random), a mix of various school schedules, a few changes of job and more have complicated things more than I could have imagined. However, there's one thing that remained constant through the years: I said that I would complete this no matter what, and here it is at last! This marks the end of this project. A few updates might be done in the future to improve a few sentences and correct missing lines (if any), but the game is now fully playable without any external help. As I've mentionned in the past, two versions of the patch are actually available. One is a basic translation from Japanese to English, which keeps the Japanese names (Rockman and friends) intact. The second one is a localization, taking everything under the Mega Man umbrella through a set of name changes. Both files are within the same archive and can be downloaded together. This project couldn't have been completed without the help of several people:

  • Servbot #20 helped all through the process to figure out who things work
  • Guillermo provided most of the early text translations
  • Elaine translated most of the in-game text

With that said, you'll find new screenshots of the translation, along with a download link and the instructions on how to use the patch, in the Rockboard translation section. Enjoy!!
