Merry Christmas!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 25 December 2005 at 22:28
I would like to take a few minutes to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Considering the hour at which I'm posting this, I hope you had a great day!
Season change
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 20 December 2005 at 22:24
And along with the upcoming Holidays, the Christmas layout is back! I used the occasion to fix some details on a few pages everywhere.
Beyond that, I'm preparing some new content that should appear within a few weeks. Stay tuned!
New affiliate(s), take 2
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 8 December 2005 at 22:07
Due to a sudden turn of events, the affiliation deal with the Rockman.exe Headquarters fell through. However, ACE_Spark has come to save the day with none other than Sprites INC! Few people need an introduction to that site, since it's the best ressource on the Internet for any sort of Mega Man-related sprites. The site was recently reorganized and moved to a new URL, so you might want to take this occasion to update your bookmarks as well.
EDIT: Apparently, my link button was added over at EXEHQ, so it looks like this affiliation will be done after all. I'll add their button as soon as I can.
New affiliate
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 1 December 2005 at 19:29
The Rockman.exe Headquarters, or EXEHQ for short, has been added as an affiliate. The site features information, contests, downloads and more, all focused on the EXE series of course. Check them out!
Also, remember that even if you don't get accepted as an affiliate, you can submit a link to your site through this form in the links database. If you do that, it would be nice if you linked back to this very site using any of the link methods available!
Additional PC Games info
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 23 November 2005 at 22:29
The PC Games page got a new update with new information being added to the Mega Man 3 and X7 entries. Thanks to SynjoDeonecros and Alex for that!
General maintenance
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 9 November 2005 at 23:01
Some maintenance and minor corrections have been done on several sections of the site. The progress on some upcoming features is still going on very well, but I don't have anything extra to report at the moment.
New wallpaper
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 16 October 2005 at 1:32
Daniel Hood sent it a wallpaper which I've just added to the downloads section. The new file, available only in 1024 x 768, is at the botton of the list. It's a collage made of various character art.
Also, some spirit might have changed something about the website. What it is... I don't know. Do you think you could notice it?
Still more FanArt
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 26 September 2005 at 15:49
More FanArt is headed your way! Regulus submitted two drawings of characters from the X series, while Storm Eagle has sent in a fan-made maverick. Get the pictures here!
Anyone who would like to see his/her art displayed in the archive can contribute, too! See the guidelines in the FanArt section for more info, then contact me!
New way to purchase X3, X5 and Legends
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 8 September 2005 at 10:42
Jorpho recently let me know that Trygames now have the PC versions of Mega Man X3, X5 and Legends available in the purchase-and-download format! All three used to be available this way directly through Capcom's website, but the offer was removed a few years ago. Now, people interested in those games finally have a new chance to get their hands on them! I've updated the PC Games page with this latest information. Thanks, Jorpho!
Interordi.com redesign
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 3 August 2005 at 0:19
Those who are keeping an eye on my other projects might want to know that the main Interordi.com site just received a major facelift, something that I've been working on for a long time. I have updated all the pages with a new design and new content all around. There are no more "under construction" or "coming soon" marks, since all the sections have been opened. Feel free to give comments or suggestions on this latest set of changes!
400,000 hits!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 31 July 2005 at 1:58
The hit counter reached another magical number not too long ago as it went past 400,000! While the counter isn't 100% reliable, it's results are close enough to the true numbers that it does the job for me. Thanks to everyone who's been coming back again and again, and welcome to the new visitors too!
As a little gift to celebrate this new mark, Breakman sent in a FanArt picture of Roll celebrating. You can find it directly in the FanArt section, under the "400,000 hits" category. Thanks, Breakman!
A little gift
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 26 July 2005 at 1:23
I decided to give everyone a little something today. Hopefully, it will please those of you who keep asking for new music to be added! I've ripped the Mega Man 2 boss battle theme from the Rockman Complete Works set, a theme that is pretty hard to come by online. You can download it directly here, or from the music section as you wish!
More FanArt pictures
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 11 July 2005 at 22:38
The FanArt gallery has been updated once again, with a total of 11 pictures this time around. Two new artists, gingerbreadman and Mocha.exe sent in 1 and 11 pictures respectively. See them all here!
More PC games info
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 20 June 2005 at 18:18
The list of available PC games received a new update. Many details have been added to Mega Man X6 and X8, along with new box art images. Additionally, a new entry has been added for Mega Man X7 which had a PC release after all. Finally, many more buying tips are available if you are searching for those games.
Many thanks to HJ and ACE_Spark for most of the new information!
Oekaki Contest Results
Site news, by Breakman on 9 June 2005 at 23:15
The Oekaki Contest ended a week ago and now the results are in! I would
like to thank everyone who had participated. Despite what score you
got, all of the entries were great and creative. (Except a few and you
know who you are...) This contest would have been boring without you!
Now let's congratulate our top three winners:
1st Place:
style="font-weight: bold;">RubyChan - "Legendary Sword Reborn"
2nd Place:
style="font-weight: bold;">Rioni Riishu - "Drop Your Sword"
3rd Place:
style="font-weight: bold;">HJ - "First Impressions ~ RZ4"
You three will receive an email, to the address you provided, very soon
from Doctor Cossack so you can pick your prizes.
For you others, here are the rest of the
href="http://www.interordi.com/mega_man_pc/ioekaki/cresults.php">results.
It was a pretty close contest...
Last but not least, I would like to thank the judges. Being a judge is
hard job, but someone has to do it. Great job you guys! I also want to
say a big thank you to Doctor Cossack for actually holding the contest.
B)
Let's hope for another contest next year!
Anniversary special ending
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 31 May 2005 at 23:29
We're now nearing the end of May, which means that the end of the anniversary month is facing us. I hope that everyone enjoyed the various updates that happened through the month: the oekaki drawing contest, the website history recap, the new Rockboard patch and the start of the linking campaign. If you missed any of those, you'll find them through the news archive.
Future updates
The site won't die even if the special is over, though! Some more updates are already in progress, but I won't expand on what they consist of yet. The Rockboard translation is obviously included among those, of course. As far as the other stuff goes... you'll have to be patient! New and existing sections will see additions as months go by.
End of the contest
Also coming with the end of the month is the end of the oekaki drawing contest. The drawing applets will be taken down at midnight, while the judges will begin their work. Expect the full results (as well as all the contesting pictures!) to be available within a week or so.
Linking campaign
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 24 May 2005 at 21:53
As the next update for the anniversary special, I'm starting a linking campaign. As such, I've added several new banners and link buttons in the Link to me section. If you have a Mega Man website, why not take two minutes and use one of these to link to this site? In exchange, you can submit your own site to the links database and I'll add it within a few days.
Affiliation
After keeping those locked down for what seems like forever, I'll now finally resume taking in affiliates. However, not every website can apply: you have to fit in all of the following conditions.
Your site:
If you think you have what it takes, then drop me a note and we'll see. Be sure you have a linking image button in the normal size (it's 88 x 31 pixels)! Remember, even if you are declined for affiliation, nothing stops you from exchanging links (see above)!
Contest reminder
A reminder to all the artists out there: the IOekaki drawing contest is ending in one week! That's seven days left! If you want to win some of the prizes, enter now before it's too late!
Post E3 report
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 21 May 2005 at 23:46
Now that this year's E3 is over, here is a summary of the news related to the Mega Man series. There were no shocking news or game announcements, since those all happened during the last few weeks. However, we now have some more solid details about the various upcoming games.
I have updated the release dates with the new information I was able to gather: most of the upcoming games are set to be released in autumn, possibly in November.
Contest update
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 17 May 2005 at 13:47
The last few missing details about the contest have been decided on.
First of all, the full list of judges has been determined. There will be three of us: myself, of course; Tim, head admin of the Mega Man Network; and Servbot #20, long-time visitor and first contributor to the oekaki board. As it was previously said, the judging will start at the beginning of June, once the contest has ended.
Also, the missing prize has now been added: it's a model kit for X's Gaia Armor from Mega Man X5. You can find a picture of it on the prizes page.
You still have two weeks to enter the contest if you're interested!
New Rockboard patch!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 11 May 2005 at 11:03
A new patch for the Rockboard translation has just been made available! In case you don't know, I'm heading a project to fully translate the Japanese-only Rockboard game in English. You can read the project details on this information page if you want to know more. The progress is now at about 16%, with the recent addition of many of the ending scenes. The new patch can be reached on the translation's download page. The next work to be done on the translation is already planned and will begin shortly. The next patch should come in faster than this one did!
WANTED: Japanese translator
UPDATE: The position has been filled. Thanks to those who showed some interest!
Since my previous Japanese-to-English translator apparently vanished, I need someone else to carry on the work. The wanted person doesn't need to know anything about ROM hacking or the like since I'm taking care of that part. Furthermore, all of the dialog in the game is written in Hiragana and Katakana, without any kanjis. Preferably, anyone interested is more than a first grade student who "thinks" he can fight his way through the text. If you are interested in the position, send me an e-mail or a PM on the message board and we will talk.
Extra Rockboard note
UPDATE: I've received enough replies to be able to figure out what this is about. Thanks for the help!
There's a single screen of text that I submitted to several people, yet no one has been able to translate it. I'm now displaying it here in case that anyone can give me a definite answer on it's meaning. It's the last option to be set before a level starts. If you think you know the answer, please drop me a note!
Fifth Anniversary!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 6 May 2005 at 10:01
Well, here we are. Five years ago today, the first updates to the Mega Man PC Website went live! Five years is a long time for a fan site to live on the Internet. If this place is still alive and open for everyone to see, it's thanks to everyone who has been coming back again and again. Thank you, all! I would like to add a special note for those who've been visiting almost since the beginning (you know who you are!), since they've always been supportive. The hit counter currently stands at about 385 000. While this isn't as impressive as other sites who reached millions, it's definitely MUCH higher than the average, especially when you consider that most of the work here is being done by myself alone. Of course, I don't want to ignore the hard work of the various moderators who help to keep the community under control since I can't be everywhere at once. They are working for all of you, too, so another thanks goes to them! Here's to the past five years and all of the upcoming ones!
Website history
As promised, here's a recap on the history of this website, with a list of the main events that happened through the years. I've separated the various events in four time periods, since each of those had me working in a different mindset.
May 2000 - March 2002: Most of the website's major and still available features are opened: the message board, oekaki board, Rockboard translation, MegaChess and others all make their debut here. While some of those were primitive compared to what is now available, their popularity made sure that they would stay around.
March 2002 - May 2004: On March 24, 2002, the BIG CRASH occurs. Due to a major server problem on my web host's side, the data hard drives and backups are completely lost. During that event, all of the site's content and data was destroyed. While I had local backups of the content itself, the data (like message board posts and oekaki pictures) couldn't be saved, which meant restarting from scratch in those areas. Also, several sections were begging for an update so I decided to rebuild a large part of the website from the ground up. It took over 2 years to see that everything would be entirely remade, but most sections were taken care of in the following months. A side effect from the crash was that rebuilding sections took a lot of precious time away from creating new content and maintaining existing sections. Since then, the rebuilt sections haven't had any dramatic changes since they are working well and I just like their new versions.
May 2004 - Today: Since everything previously available was restored (and some new stuff was added in the process), it's now a lot easier to look ahead by adding new sections and updating existing ones as needed. Some features that are now popular, like the list of available PC games, have been added during the last year. I'm now trying to add new and improved means on interacting with fans in different ways, like the addition of the oekaki drawing contest shows.
You can review all this (and more!) by browsing through the old news updates.
Oekaki drawing contest starting now!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 1 May 2005 at 0:30
While it has been around as a draft for a long time, it's now time to start this new step for the oekaki board: beginning now, a drawing contest is officially opened on the oekaki board! Co-created by Breakman and yours truly, this contest is attached directly on the oekaki board so you need to be registered there in order to enter. Once you are registered (and logged in, of course), visit the contest area to get all of the details about the rules and prizes. Wait, did I mention prizes? That's right! The competition features models kits and Battle Network import merchandise for the top three winners!
The contest will run for a month, starting now and ending at the end of May 31st. The main judging criterias are about creativity and the general quality of the art. The judges themselves are still being selected: the list will be known before the end of the contest. For more details, see the main information pages.
I would like to use the occasion to thank Breakman for her support and help during the preparations. This thing would probably still be in draft form otherwise!
Fifth Anniversary month!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 1 May 2005 at 0:27
That's right: as the title of this update implies, the Mega Man PC Website: Dr. Cossack's Lab is about to enter it's fifth year on the Internet! This place sure has grown since it's first days, while being hosted on Crosswinds.net. A recap of the history of the site will be available on the anniversary day itself.
In order to celebrate this mark, I've got a series of updates planned to go online all through the month. Each of those updates should take care of some neglected areas around the website. Stay tuned to get all of the upcoming news! The first update of the set is located just above this one: a contest!
Minor updates
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 28 April 2005 at 14:06
I've done a few minor updates around the site, including a new picture for the box art of Mega Man X4 on the PC. Thanks to Zuppahiko for the updated picture!
More fan-made mavericks!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 6 April 2005 at 22:09
Alex submitted a new batch of fan-made mavericks (8 in this latest batch, to follow the tradition), bringing the total to an impressive 32! You can see all those new creations by following this link.
Shoo, Necro, shoo!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 1 April 2005 at 23:01
I'm now officially back in action, after Necro's apparent takeover. As you might have guessed, we simply played a little game called: 24 hours of admin and banning madness. This was obviously (to some of you, at least) an April Fools' Day prank. If you're curious, you can read the extra details on this topic of the message board.
A major change
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 31 March 2005 at 23:00
Greetings visitors of the Mega Man PC website.
It's possible you might already know who I am, but it's quite alright if you don't yet. You'll get to know who I am well enough in the upcoming future. As of today, I am the new owner of this website and it's content. It occured to me that with this website's growing popularity, that only a man of greatness can lead it in the proper direction. Who else, besides me, could possibly fill this role? I am a spectacular specimen examplifying all the qualities of greatness; there is no other who can even claim to rival me.
The previous owner of the website, Dr. Cossack, has been exiled; his accounts in all the respective subsections have been banned. There is only room for one of us now that this is my website. Embrace the changes, valued visitors, for this website is upon it's golden age!
Necro
Back online!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 28 March 2005 at 17:34
The server move has been completed, and everything is now back online. If you run into any problems, please let me know since nothing should have changed.
Server move happening soon
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 22 March 2005 at 21:06
The server hosting this website is going to be moved from one location to another in the same building. Since there's no change of hardware, there shouldn't be any problems besides some global downtime for a few hours as well as interruptions to the various scripts (message board, oekaki board and others). This should be completed within a few days at most.
Big update to the Battle Network maps
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 20 March 2005 at 11:26
The Mega Man Battle Network info section received a large update today thanks to MegaBoy's efforts. The MMBN3 maps were completely redone in a new style which makes it easier to figure out how to move within the various areas. There are now maps available for MMBN4.5 and MMBN5 in the same style. I also put some preliminary maps for MMBN4 up, although those are definitely incomplete (not even all maps are done). They'll be completed and updated to the new style later on. Eventually, the maps for MMBN1 and 2 should be moved to this new format.
Until then, MegaBoy would like some feedback about the new format of the maps. If you have any comments, then simply drop him a note!
Two small updates
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 2 March 2005 at 11:15
System requirements added
The system requirements for Mega Man X5 and X8 were added to the PC games page. Thanks to ROCKMANROTTIES for the information!
FanArt update
The FanArt section has been updated with two new pictures from Rioni Riishu, both featuring characters of the Mega Man Zero universe. You can see both pictures here.
Chatroom issues
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 27 February 2005 at 1:25
The server hosting the chatroom is being changed for a new one. While the chat applet will bring you to the new server automatically, users who manually connect might stumble on the old place instead. If that's the case, enter /server 62.193.252.108 in order to join the new server. This will all be settled in a few days at most, and the connection info for the channel won't change at all.
PC games list update
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 8 February 2005 at 23:01
The PC games section received a decent update today with the addition of Mega Man X8 to the list, as well as some extra information on the PC releases of Mega Man X4 and X6.
Thanks to HJ and Mikey Dragon for some of the information!
New FanArt update
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 27 January 2005 at 0:39
The FanArt archive was updated again today thanks to the effort of two previous contributors: The Wax added 9 new pictures to his already impressive list of pictures, while Z. King submitted two new fan reploids. As per tradition, the new pictures are all located right here.
A new section: the PC games!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 12 January 2005 at 20:58
For the first update of 2005, I'm offering you something I've been working on for the last several months: a detailed listing of all the official Mega Man games ever released on the computer! It only makes sense that this site would have that information, after all. I've compiled the information over time from various sources. There, you'll find (as available) the official game description, the system requirements, my comments as well as buying tips. For example, did you know that you can still order brand new copies of Mega Man 3 from the web? Or that Mega Man X6 on the PC might happen?
The left menu was modified to accomodate this latest addition: the "SAR Info" and "MMBN Info" links were removed, while a new link called "Games Info" has been added. From there, you can reach any of the previously available pages as well as the new one.
Along with this update, the downloads section received two additions: the shareware demo for Mega Man X1 on the PC, and the update patch for Mega Man X5! Feel free to get them if you're interested.
