A Christmas present
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 26 December 2004 at 21:17

A day late, I admit it, but it's definitely better than never!

Rioni Riishu, who contributed some material before, sent in a Christmas-themed wallpaper featuring some characters from the Zero series. It's now available in three formats in the downloads section among the other wallpapers. Happy belated Christmas!

Christmas is approaching...
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 15 December 2004 at 22:25

... and a storm of snow and decorations fell upon the website! It will remain like this until the end of the holidays, when I'll clean up and shovel all that snow back outside. Happy holidays!

On a related note, a majority of people replied on last summer's survey that they didn't send MegaCards because they didn't have any ocassion to do so. Well, with Christmas just around the corner, now is the time!

Once again, the FanArt section has been updated, this time with 8 new pictures. The Wax added two pictures to his previous ones, while newcomer Kaiserin offers you a single maverick concept. Finally, Rioni Riishu, who sent in the batch of wallpapers added a few weeks ago, joined in the fun with 5 character arts. All of those can be seen right here.

Downloads section additions!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 28 October 2004 at 22:44

Fans of the Mega Man Zero series will be happy today: five new wallpapers of various characters from that series were added to the downloads section thanks to Rioni Riishu! All five wallpapers are available in 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768 formats. Just pick one (or more), and you're good to go!

On a side note, I've updated slightly the look of the download section and modified the script behind it. You shouldn't have any problems with it, but if there's something wrong, feel free to contact me!

Scary FanArt update
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 20 October 2004 at 18:36

Scary because we're nearing Halloween, of course.

Beating the previous record of 32 pictures added at once, this latest update features 34 pieces of artwork sent by four artists! First of all, Alex contributed 8 new fan-made mavericks to the ones he already sent in. Second, newcomer BackLash made 16 new robot masters along with a picture of A-2, their leader. Third, The Wax joined in with 8 pictures of characters from the original and X series, all of those being drawn directly on a computer. Last but not least, Z. King sent in a single picture of Cyber Byakko, an X series based character.

Again, all of the new pictures can be seen right here. Thanks to everyone who contributed!

Ghosts are coming...
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 14 October 2004 at 22:30

As I did last year, I've turned the website to it's orange twin until Halloween. The usual, soothing blue tones will return at the beginning of November.

... boo!

Status update
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 23 September 2004 at 19:24

Since a few weeks went by since the last update, I thought I should let everyone know what's going on with the site.

I haven't had much time in those last few weeks to do additions on the website, as you probably noticed. That's about to change, though, so I'm planning the next few updates. I've got a lot of ideas for this site, from modifications to new sections, so expect to see some new stuff over the next weeks!

The next update or two are going to be minor additions or changes. However, following those should be the opening of a brand new section. What is it about? I'm not telling yet!

On a side note, there were popups haunting the main page of the site for the last few months. Some people never saw them, while others were attacked at almost every visit. Thankfully, those are now gone so you shouldn't see one anymore. There isn't supposed to be any popups on the website, and I want it to stay that way. If you still receive some, then please contact me so I can try to find the source.

Battle Network 4 maps
Battle Network Series, by Dr. Cossack on 4 July 2004 at 11:43

I thought I would post this update to answer a question that many of you could be asking: at this point, there are no Battle Network 4 maps available online. The creator of the maps from the previous games, MegaBoy, hasn't done any yet. However, BradyGames is publishing an help guide for MMBN4 that contains detailed maps. You should be able to find this guide in your favorite game stores within a few days, if it's not already available.

Survey about this site
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 22 June 2004 at 17:36

Over the years, I worked on implementing various exclusive features to this site: MegaChess, the MegaCards system, the oekaki board, etc. However, I don't hear much about which features people truly enjoy, so I've decided to do a survey to get a bit more feedback.

I would really appreciate it if you could take a minute or two and complete the form. It would give me a better idea of what people are looking for while coming here, so I can focus on those points. There's a text field at the end of the survey if you want to add some extra comments not covered by the other questions. Thanks to everyone who will answer!

Rockboard translation status
Projects, by Dr. Cossack on 3 June 2004 at 17:17

As some of you guessed, the "mysterious picture" that I put on the anniversary update is indeed from Rockboard. That picture shows the latest sentence translated in the game and is a proof that the project isn't dead at all. In fact, more updates about it should follow in the next months.

I have made several modifications to the Rockboard translation section today. There is no new patch available yet, but I've rewritten parts of the information text to better describe the ultimate goal of the project. As an addition, I've written a set of installation instructions for those who don't know what to do with the IPS file. You'll find that directly on the translation download page.

Post-E3 report
Misc Mega Man, by Dr. Cossack on 15 May 2004 at 15:45

Now that this year's E3Expo is over, I thought I would summarize the status of the various upcoming Mega Man titles.

Mega Man Battle Network 4 and Mega Man X: Command Mission are still on the way for a North American release later this year. You can see the expected release dates on the right column.

Unsurprisingly, Mega Man Battle Network 5 was confirmed by Capcom to be in the works. There are no known details besides the fact that the game is coming. In other Battle Network news, a game was announced for the upcoming Nintendo DS system. It's not known yet if that will be MMBN5 or a completely new game. I'll add those two to the release dates section when more information is available.

The various versions of the Mega Man Anniversary Collection are on their way as well. It was confirmed that the Mega Man 1 to 6 games included in the GameCube and Playstation 2 releases are the Complete Works versions that only came out in Japan a few years ago. The GameBoy Advance version, which was previously known as Mega Man Mania, will have the five original Mega Man games for the GameBoy with added color. While the set has the same name as the console versions, the content is completely different.

Fourth anniversary!
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 10 May 2004 at 19:23

Fourth anniversary
That's right, this website's first updates went live four years ago already! Long time visitors will agree that a lot changed since this site first was available. While the updates slowed down in the last year due to an overloaded schedule, I plan to put more time on the place in the following months. Take the remaining of this news post as a proof of that effort. :-)

News history
I spent several hours on restoring the archive of past news items. The content was split between different sources: the current, database powered news; the previous Newspro organized system; and the manual updating that was done before it. However, because of the two server crashes that plagued this server, several months worth of data were lost. The largest period of missing information is from August 2001 to March 2002, before the first crash. You are free to read what was written before, as long as you keep in mind that what happened in the past might not be applicable today. The history of this website is available right here, with a permanent link being available at the bottom of this page.

MegaChess
After being offline for way too long, MegaChess is finally back online! As a proof that time flies by way too fast, the game has been unavailable for a bit more than two years already. As many of you probably never saw the previous version, allow me to explain what it is exactly. MegaChess is an online version of chess, where the various pieces have been replaced with Mega Man characters from the original series. The game is meant to be played online between two people. There is no computer to play against, and I don't plan to add one (the logics to implement would be really complicated).

The game system now installed is completely new. It is similar to the one in place before, although I did many improvements. The game has been kept pretty basic as a start. If the game gets popular, I'll consider adding more advanced features. Feel free to send me any suggestions or comments that you might have toward the game. For now, why not play a little? ;-)

That addition finally completes the set of the six main features of this site, which you can see on the top of the main page. The left menu is also fully available, after various sections being offline for a long time.

A mystery...
To conclude this major update, I'll leave you with the following mysterious picture. What it means is to be seen later...

Battle Network section updated
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 28 April 2004 at 19:45

The MMBN Info section has been updated today. The maps for Battle Network 3 and Network Transmission are now separated by categories and ordered in the way you should first need them. The MMBN1 & 2 pages were already organized that way. Many minor changes were also done to the different pages of that section.

Back to normal
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 1 April 2004 at 23:34

As we move away from April Fools' Day, the website returns to normal. For those who missed it, for the duration of April 1st, the Mega Man PC Website was replaced with a Pokémon-dedicated website called PokéLab. You can still view the prank here if you're interested. I'm not planning to close this site anytime soon, so you don't have to worry about that. :-) Regular updates will continue as usual.

If you want to see some of the statistics from the prank, you can view them in this message board topic. On a side note, there shouldn't be anymore downtime with the website, as the issue was fixed.

New FanArt update
Site news, by Dr. Cossack on 6 March 2004 at 17:09

The FanArt archive was updated once again, this time with 17 new pictures.

There haven't been many front-page updates lately because I've been busy with several issues all coming up at once. Most of the recent updates were done on the oekaki board, and got their own announcements directly over there. Some behind-the-scenes work was and is still being done on the site as well.
