I think the X from X4-X7 is best. What do you think?

What he said.

Original is always the best. People who attempt to make things better only make it worse.

EX. Greenday with Dookie. It was a great album. Almost everything but Insomniac and a bit from Warning.

So you would have them stop their music career in 1994 with Dookie? Or just re-relase Dookie a million times?

I do prefer the X1-3 X, though.

Hey, we all know Nirvana for example is still liked just because Cobain died before he could ruin the band. Same thing probably goes for Alice in Chains, and such..

I mean, people stopped liking Elvis when he got fat and addicted to drugs..but as soon as he died, wham. Appreciation and mourning. So obviously Greenday should have made Dookie, then killed off "Billy Joe" or whatever the hell his name is before he got to Nimrod and "Time of Your Life".

And ah, they should've done that with Aerosmith too...good god they're awful in comparison to what they used to be..

But anyways, back to X..I hope you all realize the topic is about the CHARACTER and not his armors or his friends. When did you like his character best. See, I don't like anything character-wise after X4, since Zero took the spotlight anyway. And X4 was godawful play-wise. 5 and 6 weren't bad, but they had Alia and company stealing the spotlight again.. And X7-8 has Axl as a new character, so I'm sure they shafted X once again. So yep, 1-3 is still my choice even though I haven't played 7 or 8.

Oh! Oh! "suddenly so very giddy* X! ^___^

I don't know. I feel like I'm in a candy store... ^^; I love them all except for Master X (he is NOT X, just some copy...).

I haven't actually played X1-X3, but they do have X as the main character and that's always a good thing.

X4-X7 were the beginning breakdown of his mental state. Depressed and distressed. I really didn't like it because that paved the way for Zero (a more mentally "stable" (other than his nightmares) reploid) to become the main hero. Also, X7 had him totally lacked of spirit and very whiny.

X8 had a bit of a comeback in his personality but he still was very dark and depressed. Axl loves to tease him.

In Command Mission, he was a totally different person. Optimistic but serious. I really don't think this is X... ^^;

The Zero series was like the nail in his coffin (literally). He has been fighting by himself for 100+ years without any help and when Zero decides finally to wake up (some friend he is...), X is weak and weary by then. He just wants to die and be in peace for once (and who would blame him?).

As a character in the whole, he's the classic "Young Goodman Brown" case but with a false hope still lingering 'til the very end. Innocence, realization, depressed and cynical, and death. He tried to follow his dream to create an Elysium and when that became a reality, it was a corrupt monster that created new wars. He has to rely on someone else to clean up his own mess. Poor X!

Most definitely, I like X in his "youthful" years (which everyone characterize X1-X3 as). But then again, I do find the Command Mission X a bit charming and the later X (X4-X8 and Zero) very fable like and philosophical. The best looking ones, I gotta say, are the Command Mission and Zero ones... Rrrugh! I can't choose! >_<;;;

The heck with it. I'll just pick the middle of the road X. *votes Command Mission*

Exactly. I love Nirvana and Alice in Chains and the old Depeshe Mode (they're not bad right now though, still...), Green Day, Guns N' Roses (of course, the older ones), Stone Temple Pilots, Red Hot Chili Peppers,... Name them all.

Anyways, all of them would have changed, some did, some didn't get the time. When Green Day released their newer albums, like Warning and Nimrod... Hell broke loose. WTF, Time of Your Life? Acustic guitar in a punk band? It just made no sence.

I'm glad Nirvana never changed or Alice in Chains. Who knows though, they might have not changed. Nobody knows now... Damn drugs...

To answer your question Airman (-.-), yes. They should have stopped there. Releasing American Idiot made me mad as hell. Again, why the hell did Billie Joe think of Wake Me Up When September Ends? Your supposed to be a freckin punk band. Plus, if the song was really about your dad, why did you put the war in it? Makes no sence. What happened to the dude who named his band after their favorite thing to do?

Hey, shouldn't it be X4-X6? They did the 3D change in X7.
Anywho, I like the X4-X6 version the best. I just don't like the 16-bit of the old ones.

I dunno. I always thought that X1-X2 was pretty naive. I felt that he really matured in X3 and X4, an even though it always looked hopeless in X5, he kept going. Thought the failure of the Enigma, he still worked to make the shuttle a possibility. And even in the semi-apocalyptic world that followed, he kept fighting for Elysium.

But most of all, he always believed that there was good in others.

Well OK, not always. He doesn't try to redeem Sigma or Vile, and I can't remember with Dr. Doppler. But Colonel, General, and even Gate are all offered redemption by X, even though he has more than enough reason to shoot them on the spot.

I guess my vote would go to X4-X6, since I don't believe in X7.

Wow, this board hasn't changed one bit. Crikey.

Based on looks, the Command Mission X is the best- without the new armor, anyways.
On personality, there's quite a bit of complication going on. He begins as a naive kinda dude, like a child. Then, he begins to lose hope in everything, and by X7, he's just a wimp. Haven't played X8 though. As stated before, X1-2 are naive, and X4 is just on the edge of insanity. I prefer the X3 one the best. Kind of in the middle of everything.
Zero's kinda been too much of the focus, and a lot of the later games don't offer a lot of insight to X. Zero's just a downward spiral into a bitter war veteran.

So I'm not going to have anything spectacular in my signature.

Heh, Fred. You should really come back man, your one of the boards... uhh... you know.

Command Mission X was cool, but it didn't have that classic look... Thats why X1-3 are the best.

Ah, so you like faceless narrow-minded heavy crap. Guns n Roses and Nirvana did do accoustic songs, by the way, and it's better for a band to do a wider variety of songs and that ability wins them a lot of respect in my eyes. Every band has a rock ballad in them, and Green Day have got a few in a few albums :P

I know they used accustic, but they knew how to use it. They made it sound good too. But come on, do punk bands use them? Time of Your Life sucked badly because it was a big jump from what they used to be and it wasn't the same. It didn't have that punkish sound to it. However when Nirvana used accustic they made it sound good, and rockish. It wasn't some sad song either, it sounded nice too.

I'm thinking about it. I will if I have time.
I used to be one to go completely for the classic stuff; NES, SNES, the good ol' days. But, a lot of times I didn't like some of the old stuff- like the SNES Zero from X1. He was boring. Then they traded him in for something better. I like that.
Think: You have a ninja game. The ninja is wearing a bright pink jogging suit and can't do anything but throw ninja stars. Wouldn't you want them to give him a shinobi shozuku and wakazashi/katana? If so, you'd have a much more functional game where you can do much more than throw ninja stars(Shuriken).
However, you are right- they do mess some things up. They traded in Vile's old pink Boba Fett suit for some...crappy thing with a Fett helmet. With X5 you couldn't wear parts of an armor. Very...blah. Not fun.
As many people have said before- "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

So I'm not going to have anything spectacular in my signature.

What you say!!
(All your base quote there.)
You've only played XTREME?! That game is a disgrace. And left partially untranslated. Vile is known as "Vava"
And in Xtreme 2, there's a really funky typo. It says "lavatory" instead of "laboratory".
XD
You should find yourself a SNES- or failing that, get yourself a Playstation. A used original PS. Try not to waste too much money on it though- it's SONY.
